Keys to Becoming a Successful Event Planner
Last week I shared my tips on how I eased into event planning. The common thread that was woven throughout that article was training and practice. Practice? Are we talking about practice? Yes, are talking about practice. Perfecting your practice will lead to perfecting your plan.
Training is essential if you have never managed an entire event or been paid for your services. Skipping the training or practice steps can be detrimental to your destiny as an event planner, because in most cases there is not an opportunity for a do-over.
Lastly, all event planners are not required to have a certification, so it's important to know what type of events you plan before spending hundreds on a course that may not be beneficial to you or your business. There are so many free and affordable resources available. Start by following some of your favorite designers and opt to enroll in some of the training classes that they may offer. It was one of the best investments I have ever made and definitely a key to my success. Below are some additional keys that have assisted me along this journey… Enjoy!
Key #1: Creating successful events in a timely manner is the #1 key to success in this business. Who cares how many clients you can get if you aren't able to produce what they want, when they want it, right? If you're serious about making a career as an event planner, invest in high-quality, thorough training. That way, you'll not just "plan" events, you'll become an event planner -- an excellent one that will earn loyal clients.
Key #2: Having support is the other key. A lot of aspiring event planners give up out of frustration within mere days or weeks. Event planning is a busy industry, and many of the people who can answer their questions are too busy to help newbies, their eBook only gives them a fraction of the information they need, and finding clients is a giant, scary mystery. That's why we've got step-by-step instructions for everything and you can email us your questions when you're stuck. You'll never have to rely solely on Google to find answers or support again, and you won't have to sift through pages and pages of forums looking for answers. We know how to use the tools and we know how to find work. It's truly all-inclusive.
