How to Live Luxuriously for Less

When I was a little girl my mother, who was a single parent of five, would often tell me that I had “champagne taste with a budget for ice water”. I didn’t know what it meant at that time, but I knew that I needed to figure out how I could taste champagne with a budget for water. I came up with creative and innovative ways that I could bring into fruition the quality of life I’d envisioned for my family and me.

Thus, I learned to dress, dine, decorate, celebrate, shop, travel and enjoy everyday life or less! What was once a necessity has now become my knack. My passion in life is to pass on those learnings through teaching and inspiring others to live beautifully, creatively and luxuriously for less!

Today, I will be sharing with you my top four principles on how I managed to turn my misfortune into living like I spent a fortune.

The first principle in living luxuriously for less is to recognize that luxe is a lifestyle and not just a brand. It’s an entirely different way of thinking. Essentially, it is the perfect combination of saving and splurging. You have to know when to hold them and when to fold them. For example, if you are working on a patio project and you need new furniture, flooring, and paint- your spurge will more than likely be on your tile. You can save on your patio furniture by purchasing off season.

The next principle for living luxuriously for less is to ALWAYS SHOP OFF SEASON! The best time to buy Christmas décor is after Christmas, the best time to take a luxury vacation is when everyone is working or back in school and the best time to buy patio furniture is in the fall. Shopping off season allows you to purchase high-quality name brand items for up to 90% off the ticketed price. Your savings from those purchases now can be used towards the splurges later.

It is almost impossible to live luxuriously for less without implementing the four w’s, which brings me to the third principle. Wish, watch, wait and win. Let me explain exactly how that works. When you see an item that you like, but it is a little out of your price range; you add it to your wish list. You watch for the sale cycle of that store. Once you understand that cycle and you are in your period of waiting- you save for that purchase. Once that price drops to the price point that you have been waiting for; you pounce in at purchase it… Can you say win?

Finally, living luxuriously for less is achievable for anyone on any level. You have to define what a luxurious life looks like for you. If it entails a great deal of travel and adventure; then apps like Living social and Groupon will become your best friends. And by the way, airfare is typically cheaper on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If it encompasses a beautiful and comfortable home in which you would like to entertain and enjoy your family; understanding sales cycles and shopping off-season will be your portion. If you enjoy designer clothing and handbags that never go on sale; saving where you can save so that you can spend where you want will become your motto.

Whatever, living a luxurious life looks like for you embrace it and take advantage of the resources that are available to relish in it. Don’t ever sacrifice price for quality or quality for the price. Just because something costs a lot doesn’t mean that it is worth a lot and vice versa. Do your due diligence in research so, in the end, you will fully embark upon the experience that you desire.

Everything from your clothing to your home can be luxurious. You don’t have to spend a fortune to look like you did; by using the tips above for finding deals and getting creative, you can certainly live a luxe life for less.

Finally, if you want to start living luxuriously for less, know that your attitude is just as important as your possessions. You can live a luxurious life by starting with your mindset. Once you change your mind; you change everything.

Until Next Time!
